Introducing a New Puppy to Older Dogs

We have a very aggressive 8 year old westie. We've had her since she was 10 months old. She is very dominant and we have spoiled her a lot! We recently adopted another westie female from a pet rescue organization. The situation is not horrible but we have not been able to let the new dog out in the home for fear the older westie will attack her. Is there a way to get the older dog to accept the new one or should we proceed with finding another home for her. Please help us!

Thanks for your question. It definately sounds like you have your hands full! Please review the question asked recently regarding the family with a older dominant female introducing a puppy to the home. How long have you had the puppy? I would definately not give up yet. It sounds as if the dogs have had some interaction on mutual ground. I would continue this and gradually safely increase the interaction between the two. Have you considered using safety precautions when the two meet such as a see through gate between them, a muzzle, or using a leash to contain the older dog. Please come in and visit us at 5700 W. Kilgore. We can help you with more advice or possibly help you with some of the intros as we have safety equipment. Thanks again.
